Miami Jewish Film Festival’s November “Simply Streisand” Retrospective Continues

The Miami Jewish Film Festival, in cooperation with the Miami Beach Cinematheque, will continue its retrospective of Barbra Streisand’s most iconic films throughout the month of November. “Simply Streisand” celebrates four of Streisand’s Academy Award- Nominated films with screenings hosted by special guests. November 1 at 6:45pm- FUNNY GIRL (1968)

In the role that garnered her first Academy Award for Best Actress, Streisand stars as Fanny Brice, a vaudeville  performer, who works her way up to Stardom in Broadway, despite a stormy romantic and financial relationship with Nicky Arnstein (Omar Sharif).

November 8 at 7 pm- WHAT’S UP, DOC? (1972)

Four identical overnight bags. Four hotel guests. Throw in a dash of Cole Porter and an all-star ensemble, then shake and garnish with a little Bugs Bunny.

November 15 at 6:45pm. HELLO DOLLY! (1969) 

Gene Kelley and Ernest Lehman feature Streisand as the exuberant matchmaker Dolly Levi as they bring the smash Broadway musical to the screen in a production that was nominated for seven (and won three) Academy awards.

 

November 22 at 7pm-YENTL (1983)

Streisand directed, co-wrote and co-produced this film in which a young woman disguises herself as a man so she can study “Talmud,” a sacred text in Judaism which is forbidden to women, and finds love while learning. Her Golden Globe for best director was the first ever for a woman.
