Potlucks and Acting Lessons: Panther Film Festival Workshops This Week

After a successful first Meet & Greet last month, the Panther Film Festival is moving forward and bringing you TWO workshopping opportunities this week!

On Thursday, November 16, join your fellow Panther filmmakers inside the Center For Excellence in Writing (GL 125G) for a General Workshop + Potluck from 3:00-5:00 PM. Stop by to learn more about the Panther Film Festival and some of the upcoming deadlines to watch out for! These general workshops are a great opportunity for pitching any new ideas you might have for a short film, offering up a status report on ongoing projects, or opening the floor up to some brainstorming sessions. If you missed October’s Meet & Greet, expect to introduce yourself to others and make some new friends. Food and drinks will be provided, but in the spirit of unity and friendship, attendees are encouraged to partake in the Potluck aspect of this meeting and bring in some food of their own to share with everyone.

Stick around another two hours after Thursday’s Workshop + Potluck and catch a 7:00 PM screening of Wes Anderson’s wonderfully whimsical stop motion animated film, Fantastic Mr. Fox, courtesy of Sigma Tau Delta at PG-6 116.

Then, on Friday, November 17th, FIU’s very own Professor Phillip M. Church will lead an Acting Masterclass at Deuxieme Maison’s Student Lab Studio (DM 150) from 5:00-7:00 PM. Professor Church has been an integral part of FIU’s Theater Department for the better part of 30 years and his extensive experience in acting will make for an incredibly insightful lesson! We welcome you to bring any friends or relatives interested in learning a thing or two about acting from one of our community’s very best. Check your inhibitions at the door, because Professor Church will likely have attendees getting out of their comfort zone and participating in some acting exercises!

We hope you’ll be able to join us at these events as we continue to provide you learning and networking opportunities to meet fellow filmmakers ahead of April’s Panther Film Festival. We encourage you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on all future Film Studies Program and Panther Film Festival-related events.
