The Second Annual Panther Film Festival is on its Way!
The Second Annual Panther Film Festival will be here in April! Next Wednesday, January 23, 2019, the Film Studies Program will be hosting the first PFF Mixer of the Spring Semester from 3:00 to 5:00 PM in the patio area behind the English Department (4th Floor of DM, directional posters will be available that day). Come by to learn more about the festival, how to enter a short film, and meet possible collaborators. Snack will be provided.

PFF Updates: Screenplay Competition Deadline and Prize!
The January 6, 2019 deadline for the Panther Screenplay Competition is closer than you think! Thanks to our sponsor the Coral Gables Art Cinema, the winning screenplay of the competition will be awarded a 1-year membership to the CGAC’s After-Hours Program! To be considered eligible, screenplay submissions must be delivered no later than 11:59 PM on the day of the deadline, which is January 6, the Sunday before the Spring semester begins. Submit your screenplay in either PDF format to fiupff@gmail.com or as a print copy to Dr. Strycharski’s mailbox in the English Department on the fourth floor of DM (Deuxieme Mansion MMC).

Panther Film Festival Builds on Kickoff Events
Building on the success of last week’s events, the Panther Film Festival will be coordinating more workshops and mixers, including a second, “roll-up-your-sleeves” workshop next Wednesday (September 26) from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, in The Center for Excellence in Writing (GL 125).
Screenwriters or FIU filmmakers are encouraged to bring any screenplay or story idea they have and get constructive feedback on their work. Writing Center Coordinator Charles Donate and local filmmaker Manuel Delgadillo will be expanding on the insightful foundational elements of screenwriting they presented in their first workshop last Tuesday. Whether it’s a developed screenplay or simply an idea for a future short film, Charles, Manny, and other screenwriters will be there to help. Future screenwriting workshops, will focus on specific skills such as developing dynamic characters and writing interesting dialogue.

Panther Film Festival Returns for Year Two
We are thrilled to announce the return of the steadily growing Panther Film Festival! Building on last year’s structure, this school year will feature a series of workshops and competitions to bring student filmmakers of all levels on board, culminating in the April festival screening.
Kick start the year with us next Thursday, September 13th at the first Panther Film Festival Meet & Greet of the semester!
A Message from the Film Club President
Welcome back, Panthers! We, the Film Initiative: Underground, are excited to begin this new year and continue to grow on the success that last year’s student filmmaking community saw.
For those who’re interested in learning more about us and what we do, the Film Initiative is FIU’s premier film club and the hub for FIU’s student filmmakers. The Film Initiative coordinates film centered-activities for both movie lovers and filmmakers alike.
This year we’re back with a fresh new line-up of films. As always, our screenings are free and open to all FIU students, with free snacks and post-film discussions. They will be held Thursdays on the MMC campus (Room and Time TBA), but we are always looking to make our screenings more dynamic and exciting! This year we will introduce a new aspect to our weekly meetings that may have you go home with a new Blu-Ray copy of the movie presented that night. So tighten up those Joker impressions and get those Halloween costumes ready! This semester, you can expect the following films at our screenings:

Pop the champagne its time for a recap of the Panther Film Festival. The crowd swarmed GC140 waiting patiently for the doors to open. Many were excited to see the work produced by their fellow peers and they were not disappointed. For those of you who missed out, here’s a few of the shorts that won awards!
