Welcome Back + O Cinema Kicks off Week of Kubrick

We at FIU’s Film Studies Program hope that you, the members of our community, have managed to get back on track after the chaos brought upon us by Hurricane Irma. As we move towards establishing a sense of normalcy again, there are few things in this world that help as much as watching a movie among friends. That said, we hope you’ll be as excited as we are to hear that starting this Friday, September 22, O Cinema will begin a week-long celebration of one of the most prolific and revered directors in the history of cinema: Stanley Kubrick.

Stanley Kubrick filming a scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey

Four of Kubrick’s most critically acclaimed films will be screened across different nights at O Cinema Miami Beach in stunning HD digital restorations. If you want to grab a couple of your droogs and enjoy some Moloko Plus, A Clockwork Orange will be screened on Friday (Sep.22) at 10:30 PM, Saturday (Sep.23) at 4:20 PM, and Tuesday (Sep.26) at 7:15 PM. The transcendent Sci-Fi masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey will be screened on Saturday (Sep.23) at 7:15 PM, Sunday (Sep.24) at 7:15 PM, and Thursday (Sep.28) at 7:15 PM. If you’re into political satires, the Cold War-set Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb will be screened on Saturday (Sep.23) at 2:30 PM, Sunday (Sep.24) at 5:00 PM, and on Wednesday (Sep.27) at 7:15 PM. And with Halloween just around the corner, it sounds like a good time to get creepy with the chilling psychological horror classic adapted from a Stephen King novel NOT about dancing clowns: The Shining. The iconic Jack Nicholson-led film gets FOUR screenings beginning on Friday (Sep.22) at 7:15 PM, Saturday (Sep.23) at 10:30 PM, Sunday (Sep.24) at 2:00 PM, and on Monday (Sep.25) at 7:15 PM.

Here’s Johnny! Jack Nicholson delivers a truly terrifying performance as Jack Torrance in The Shining.
