Oscars 2020: How to Watch the Nominees on a Budget
The Oscars are coming up fast and we all don’t have the time or money to watch the nominees in theaters. But, don’t fret, many of them are available for streaming on Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, with rentals on Amazon Prime. In addition, many nominated short films can be found online for free on YouTube and Vimeo, while at O Cinema they’ll be showcasing all the nominated shorts. Those nominees not available for streaming are being screened at theaters including AMC, Regal, Cobb,The Tower Theater, and The Landmark. Out of the 54 nominated films, 51 are available to watch, stream, and rent in South Florida. Below is a list of the available films to watch and where to find them.

Oscar Watch Party 2020
It’s the Superbowl of the movie industry, game seven of awards season, and the royal wedding of the American red carpet all rolled into one. Love them, hate them, and everything in between, there’s nothing like the Oscars, and we have THE watch party planned for you.
The big screen awards deserve a big screen, so come out to GC 140 at 7PM on Sunday, February 9th and catch the full Oscars broadcast, red carpet and all! We’ll have our own red carpet, photo booth, games, snacks and fun. There will be awards for the most stylish dresser, Oscar trivia, and Oscar predictions. Cheers and jeers encouraged.

The Oscars Know They’re So White and Don’t Really Care
The Oscars nominations have been out for 2 weeks now and I am still upset. Almost everywhere you look, there is some kind of discussion going on around the lack of equality and diversity paired with calls to fix it. This year’s biggest award show in the film industry is no exception.
The Oscars have come under fire for their lack of diversity on numerous occasions, and soon after the 2020 Nominations were released, the Academy Awards made headlines for all the wrong reasons once again. This year’s nominations seem to be part two of the #OscarsSoWhite fiasco in 2015, with nearly all of the nominations being given to white, male-led, male-directed, and male-focused films.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari: A Well-Earned Migraine
The Miami Jewish Film Festival celebrated the centennial anniversary of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari last Saturday at the Coral Gables Art Cinema as part of their After Hours program. Restored in 4K, this German expressionist film was shown with a newly commissioned live score by sound artist Richard Vergez. Prior to the screening, the night’s program featured international shorts in competition at the festival. The combination of old and new, silent and sound, was an immersive experience that left ears ringing in its wake.
