Pop the champagne its time for a recap of the Panther Film Festival. The crowd swarmed GC140 waiting patiently for the doors to open. Many were excited to see the work produced by their fellow peers and they were not disappointed. For those of you who missed out, here’s a few of the shorts that won awards!
The time has come, Panthers! Next Tuesday, April 17th, we will be hosting the inaugural Panther Film Festival! This first of its kind festival is a combined effort by the Film Studies Program, The Film Initiative, and Sigma Tau Delta — one which has been in the works since last October when we held our first meet and greet event. Since then, we’ve held several workshops which have drawn in several FIU filmmakers and helped create connections among the filmmaking community.
Spring is a time for renewal and new beginnings. As you, our readers, might already know, FIU’s Film Studies Program has been working with the Film Initiative Underground and Sigma Tau Delta on developing the first annual Panther Film Festival (PFF) — a celebration of the creativity and imagination within our Panther filmmaking community. We are excited to announce that the first Meet & Greet of the Spring semester will be held next Friday, January 26th at GC 316 from 3 to 5 PM. Stop by to meet the members of our wonderfully diverse filmmaking community as you look to round out your crews ahead of the looming application deadlines, which have been extended.
After a successful first Meet & Greet last month, the Panther Film Festival is moving forward and bringing you TWO workshopping opportunities this week!
Earlier this month, the Panther Film Festival held their first of what will be several mixer and workshop-like events leading up the actual film festival in April 2018. The PFF Meet & Greet welcomed over 30 students students from varying majors into a conference room in Deuxieme Maison. Senior Amanda Seijo, who hopes to submit a short film for the festival, noted that, “We could barely fit in the room! It was a surprising turnout and it seems that FIU has some talented individuals in different aspects of filmmaking. This is something I wouldn’t miss the chance to be a part of.”
Panther Filmmakers! Join us this Thursday, October 19th, at the first of several Panther Filmmaker Mixers at Deuxieme Maison (DM) 457 from 3:00-5:00 PM. This first event will serve as a Meet & Greet where those of you interested in learning more about the Panther Film Festival (PFF) will have an opportunity to ask us questions and meet other students who are interested in making films. We encourage you to stop by and pitch your ideas to everyone in attendance as you look to potentially fill some missing roles in your production crews! Oh, and as if you needed more of a reason to attend: there will be food and refreshments available. We’re excited to meet you all this Thursday and look forward to watching you develop your projects in the coming months!
We at Florida International University’s Film Studies Program, in cooperation with the English Honors Society (Sigma Tau Delta) and The Film Initiative Underground, are proud to announce the first annual Panther Film Festival (PFF).
